Diving Expeditions |

May & July 2009 |

Several trips diving out of Weymouth aboard the 40ft vessel Tango, skippered by
Phil Corben, have been made this year by Duncan, Mike & David,
some of which have been unfortunately cut short due to the bad
summer we've had, nevertheless the diving has always been
excellent, the hospitality onboard second to none, and we've
never failed to impress the rest of the divers with our
impressive scalloping skills!
Wrecks and sites dived include The Aeolian Sky (31m), P555
submarine (44m), Valdes (50m), Martha (49m) Portland Harbour
(10m) and Lulworth Banks (25m) |

June 2009 |
| A
one off trip aboard Tango, this time to dive something a little
bit special, the wreck of the Ice Prince, a 6,400 tonne cargo
vessel carrying 5,200 tonnes of sawn timber which got caught in
a storm and following the rescue of all 20 of her crew, sank in
the early hours of 15 January 2008. The wreck lies on its side
in 60m (despite reports of depths in excess of 70m!).
Still clearly blue in colour, little
deterioration is evident to the hull and superstructure despite
nearly two years submerged, however colonisation of the hull by
small queen scallops and other shell dwelling organisms is rife
as well as the vast schools of various fish species who have
made the wreck their new home!
With visibility up to 15m and excellent
lighting despite the depth, this was a superb example of a
modern shipwreck that would probably be the envy of many
wreck-spotters! |

Five of us ventured down to Swanage to join up with a group of
divers from the Charnwood Salz SAC from Leicester and dive some
of the local wrecks off the Mary-Jo operated by Martin Jones of
Swanage Boat Charters Our single
days diving dropped Mike, Lee, David, Duncan and Paul onto the
wrecks of the Kyarra (30m) and the Betsy-Anna (25m)
Following poor weather that first night,
our two-day dive expedition was cut short, but with five divers
eager still to get wet, we manage a last ditch attempt at
Vobster Quay, Somerset on the route back home!
Some people will do anything to avoid
washing the kit down! |

Mike & David joined 10 other technical
divers on one of Jack Ingle's South Coast Expeditions to dive
some of the English Channel's deeper wrecks.
Steaming out of Littlehampton aboard
Voyager, we enjoyed three days of fully supported decompression
diving on the wrecks of the HMS Moldavia (49m), The City of
Mexico (50m) and The Duke of Buccleaugh (56m) |
